Celem archiwum jest dokumentacja i digitalizacja aktywistycznej działalności na rzecz dziedzictwa w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej oraz upowszechnianie jej w formie dobrych praktyk. W centrum zainteresowań archiwum znajduje się działalność prowadzona przez organizacje obywatelskie, grupy nieformalne oraz osoby indywidualne. Archiwum gromadzi zarówno działania przeszłe, jak i obecne. Jednym z głównych zadań archiwum jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób zmienia się społeczna świadomość ochrony i opieki nad dziedzictwem oraz społeczna odpowiedzialność za dziedzictwo w regionie. W międzynarodowej debacie wybrzmiewa temat wykorzystywania archiwów i badań archiwalnych w działaniach aktywistycznych na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju, sprawiedliwości społecznej oraz we współtworzeniu i reinterpretowaniu dziedzictwa, jednocześnie brakuje archiwów bezpośrednio dokumentujących tego typu działania. Społeczne archiwum aktywizmu na rzecz dziedzictwa w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej jest pierwszym, które skupia się na tej problematyce. Zasób archiwalny gromadzony jest poprzez pozyskiwanie materiałów zastanych (m.in. akcje społecznościowe w regionie) oraz wywoływanie źródeł (dokumentowanie wydarzeń, nagrywanie relacji i wspomnień). Materiały pozyskiwane i opracowywane są w języku polskim i angielskim.

The aim of the archive is to document and digitise heritage activist practices in Central and Eastern Europe and to disseminate them as good practices. The archive focuses on practices carried out by civic organisations, informal groups and individuals, and it encompasses both past and present activities. One of the main tasks of the archive is to show how the social awareness of heritage protection and social responsibility for heritage in the region is changing. The issue of using archives and archival research in heritage activist activities has been debated internationally, but at the same time there are no archives dedicated to documenting such activities. The Community Archive for Heritage Activism in Central and Eastern Europe is the first to focus on this issue. The archival resources are collected by acquiring existing materials (including community campaigns in the region) and by evoking sources (documenting events, recording accounts, memories and testimonies). The materials are available in Polish and English.
